My background as an architect and love of interior design means I rarely imagine a canvas in isolation on a white gallery wall. I picture the room around it, the color of the frame, the surrounding furniture, the light, and the people who will live with it every day. I’m always thinking about how a painting will bring color, energy, and joy into a real home or office, and I often create site-specific work for exactly this reason.

These large-format acrylic paintings are full of bright, bold hues and simple, clean lines that bely over a decade of making a living as a graphic artist. I like making work that feels clear and direct without taking itself too seriously.

I moved to Ojai nearly twenty years ago after a childhood of summers on my grandparents’ orange orchard there. When I discovered Santa Fe a number of years ago, I fell in love, and it wasn’t long before I was always looking for an excuse to get in my car and take the day and a half road trip through the ever changing desert landscape. The vastness of the land, the endless sky, and the layers of mountains stretching into the distance offered a balm for my spirit that I’m constantly attempting to capture in my paintings: freedom, possibility, perspective, and the sheer pleasure of feeling small in a very big place.

Ultimately, I believe art belongs in the middle of our lives and our living spaces, not precious, difficult, or separated from the everyday. I want my paintings to become part of the rooms where people actually live and work, adding joy and, hopefully, making those living with them feel a little more alive.
